Jumping Back into the Cybersecurity Ocean

After living and breathing cybersecurity for 14 years as co-founder and CEO of Centrify, and growing it to a $100+ million business and seeing it through to a successful acquisition in late 2018, I purposely took a sabbatical in 2019 from cybersecurity (and frankly work in general). Now that 2019 is almost over, and my batteries are for the most part recharged, I have decided to pop my head up and will use the next set of blog posts to get a sense of the state of play of cybersecurity going into 2020 in terms of trends and new legislation. I will also try to sort out if there are any new approaches that have emerged to solve our cybersecurity problems.

Given that this is cybersecurity, my jump back into the ocean will probably be more of a jump into cold, shark infested waters vs. a nice day at the beach. But the way I see it, at the end of the day cybersecurity is not only a national security issue given recent attacks on our election system and critical infrastructure by nation states and organized crime, but increasingly an issue that impacts everyone. i.e. we as individuals are now constantly grappling with the impact of our financial, medical and other personal data being stolen and compromised via a growing number of data breaches of corporate and government organizations, while at the same time we need to continuously avoid the growing minefield of phishing, malware and other types of cyberattacks that target us in our daily use of the Internet.

So no matter how cold and shark infested the water is, it is a big-time problem that governments, corporations and individuals must address, so probably not a bad use of my time to write a few blog posts on it.

Cybersecurity is not a day at the beach
